The Maison
Where couture, wellness and belonging meet.
Maison Royal & Paw is the luxury house of Royal & Paw, made for the dogs and cats of people who already live well. It is positioned beside the great fashion houses, not beside the pet shop, and it holds one rule above every other: the animal's comfort comes first.
The story
From a dental surgery to a maison.
Royal & Paw began in 2021 with a crown whose points are a paw's toes, registered as a trade mark in the United Kingdom for pet grooming, fragrance and toys. Its founder, Dr. Deepak Songra BDS (GDC: 68552), had spent the years before building Petdentist®, a British oral-care brand for dogs and cats established in 2015, and had grown tired of a market that sold either clinical plastic or decorative nonsense.
The Maison is the answer: grooming and fragrance rituals made to a cosmetic standard high enough for a cat to lick, couture pieces fitted to the animal rather than the photograph, and a private circle for the people who want a person at the end of the line. London gives it its restraint. Dubai gives it its generosity.
The house dog is Merlo, the founder's Cavapoo, who tests every ritual first and appears in the Journal from time to time. The house cat is Perle, a character drawn for the Maison; cats appear just as often as dogs here, because the Maison was built for both from the first day.
The welfare charter
Comfort is couture.
Animal welfare is not a disclaimer at the Maison. It is the standard of luxury. These are the commitments every piece, ritual, image and event is held to.
- Movement first. No piece restricts a dog's or cat's natural movement, breathing, vision or hearing. A harness is cut to free the shoulder; a coat lets the animal sit, lie and run.
- Made to be licked. Every ritual is formulated so that a cat grooming itself comes to no harm: no alcohol, no essential oils, neutral pH, the lowest working fragrance level, and an independent safety assessment before sale.
- Never medicine by stealth. Rituals are cosmetic care. The Maison makes no claim to treat, prevent or cure any condition, and tells you to ask your vet whenever health is in question.
- Relaxed, or not photographed. No animal is shown stressed, restrained, overheated or in a garment that restricts it. If an animal is not comfortable, there is no picture.
- True scarcity only. Numbered editions show their real size. Lead times are real. The Maison never invents urgency.
- Cats and dogs equally. Every collection and every page is designed for both, across breeds, sizes and coats, including the mixed and the rescued.
- Provenance when proven. Materials, workshops and origins are named only when confirmed in writing.
- A person, always. Behind every ritual, piece and membership is a human concierge who can be reached, and a founder who answers for it.
The founder
Dr. Deepak Songra BDS
Founder of Petdentist® (2015) and of Royal & Paw (2021). A dental surgeon registered with the General Dental Council (GDC: 68552), working between London and Dubai.
Dr. Songra is a dental surgeon, not a veterinary surgeon, and the Maison says so plainly. His direction of the Rituals is one of standards and formulation discipline; the safety assessment of every formula is carried out by independent cosmetic chemists, and all health questions about your companion belong with your vet.
The mark
A crown of five toes.
ROYAL & PAW and the crown-paw device are registered in the United Kingdom as trade mark UK00003606321, in Class 3 for pet shampoos, deodorants and perfumery and in Class 28 for pet toys. The gold is drawn from the master artwork; the lettering is classical Roman capitals. The mark implies no royal warrant, patronage or connection to any royal or ruling family, and is never shown with arms, cyphers or heraldic supporters.
Brand ambassador
Merlo.
A cavapoo, and the founder's own companion. Merlo has been the face of Petdentist® since he was a puppy, and he is now the ambassador of the Maison.
He is also its standard. If Merlo would not sit, lie down and run in a piece, it is not made; if he would not stand still for a ritual, it is not finished. His portrait is a digital artwork: the robe and the crown were painted onto a plain photograph afterwards. Nothing was placed on him, in keeping with the charter: relaxed, or not photographed.
Merlo appears on the Maison's channels under his own name. He accepts no fees, only a walk.
Read the welfare charterThe Maison's feline
Perle.
A silver-shaded, long-haired cat with sea-green eyes, Perle is the feline face of the Maison and the reason every ritual is written for cats before it is written for dogs.
Perle is a character, not a client. Her portrait is a digital artwork created for the house; no cat was dressed, posed or photographed to make it, in keeping with the charter. She stands for the animal who licks her own coat, dislikes water and will not be hurried, and she keeps the Maison honest: if a ritual would not pass Perle, it is not made for cats, and nothing here is made for dogs alone.
Félinité, the Maison's house for cats, is in development. Perle will keep its door.
